Wizard of Oz (Concept Art Remake) Key Art

VFS Animation Concept Art 4th and 5th Term and How it Was

Tarih: 2018-08-23
Kategori: Concept Art

It is time for summer break, so I have some time to write. I have completed  two more terms of VFS ACA “Animation Concept Art” program and one more term left. You may read previous terms via this link. Let’s start.

ACA Term 4 – Adaptation Project

This period is the sum of previous periods. We take an intellectual property and redesign it in our own way, we are free to do what we want in vehicle, environment and character design. (Note: In order to avoid copyright problems, especially the works are selected from more than 75 years ago, this limit is 50 years in Canada.)

For example, Alice in Wonderland but in space, or Zorro but a mermaid, Cinderella, but like steam punk. I selected the story of the Wizard of Oz to a far east-oriented and animal-like way. I portrayed Dorothy as a cat with a stick, a tin man as a teapot,  scarecrow as a our famous canuck the crow neighbour in our garden, and a Wizard Oz as a walking city. You can see the character details from this link.

With this project, I have found application opportunities in a project covering all concept art fields. Supportive lessons continued in the meantime. In Digital Painting, I chose a different subject. I portrayed a city under water. (Yes, Istanbul again…)

In Media Studies, we made our own Remix / MashUp video, starting with the VFS graduate Kirby Ferguson’un Everything is Remix theory.

In addition to realistic drawing lessons as a support, we have met with the Toonboom Harmony program. Below you see the lamp we bounced.

At the end of the session, we prepared a presentation for our final project. We will be working on this for the last two seasons. I chose a project that I think is one of the stories in my mind and will give me different design possibilities: Freelance Chicken.

ACA Term 5 – Preparation for Personal Project

The last two semesters will be a project that will form our own style which will be decisive for our portfolio. In this period, we had to be able to determine our style and what kind of project we were going to make in the last period. The biggest contribution of the school to us comes in here: to find our own voice. We had a personal mood reel in term 3 for this. A video from what we like without any license. A really useful work you see what you have to love and what to focus on. I have therefore discovered that animation is not entirely focused on gaming technologies.

I have also compiled many years of my freelance experience. I thought it should be a chicken story that traveled freely and earn its own money. Below is the story moment that shows the escape of slave chickens.

At the end of the period, we had to prepare an animatic with a key art that told the story. Below you see the animatic of my prospective project. I will coloring it next term. Then job hunt season will start.

Actually, I can say 24 hours is not enough especially in last term. Every term, work load will become harder and harder. There is no free time to do extra part time job or etc. However, some people have some part-time job. But they also slept in class. To sum up, this is one year intense program. But it was worth. Good luck.

Hey, thank you so much for sharing your experience. That’s really kind of you. I had a query regarding how many months does one ( international student) get after they have completed the course?

Cinematography Notes 101: Film / TV Series / Animation Production Steps

Cinematography, direct translation: (Gr.) Kinema: motion + (Gr.) Graphein: recording i.e. motion recording, but to me the exact equivalent is the art of cinema.

“You must know them before they break the rules.” – Blain Brown, Cinematography: Theory and Practice.

I agree with this statement, otherwise you might have signed up for a work that is supposed to have found something new and is a repetition of the past. Before I go into the depths of cinematography, I believe it is useful to talk about filmmaking stages. These stages are: Development, Pre-production, Production, Post-production and distribution.
